Current-format Magdalen preparation — not generic 11+ creative writing.

Magdalen’s 11+ English assessment has changed. Older material included fiction and non-fiction composition, while the current format is a 45-minute Creative Writing paper worth 30 marks.

The English Entrance Press papers are designed specifically around this current 45-minute, 30-mark model. This makes them particularly useful for accurate timed mocks: pupils practise planning, writing and checking within the relevant time allowance and mark framework rather than using a generic 11+ paper or an outdated Magdalen format.

Generic creative-writing resources can be excellent for developing technique, but they are not necessarily calibrated to a particular school. These papers provide school-specific rehearsal with fresh unseen prompts, realistic pacing and repeated practice in the current format.
