Individual English tuition for pupils aiming at highly selective schools. Lessons focus on the thinking and writing that demanding entrance assessments reward: close reading, precise inference, well organised answers and creative writing shaped with control.
Tuition is tailored to the pupil’s current work, target schools and the time available before assessment. We begin by identifying what is already strong, then work on the choices that will make the greatest difference.
What tuition can cover
- 11+, 13+ and 16+ English entrance preparation: school-specific formats, unfamiliar texts, comprehension and timed writing.
- Creative writing: purposeful planning, paragraph movement, viewpoint, pacing, precise detail and endings that grow from the opening.
- Reading and analysis: inference, language and structure, selecting evidence and explaining an interpretation fully.
- Feedback and marking: clear priorities from completed work, followed by focused practice and revision.

Tuition is led by a fully qualified English teacher with a PGCE in English, a First Class degree and a Master’s degree with Distinction. I have taught in leading independent and grammar schools and have successfully prepared pupils for Sevenoaks School, Westminster Under School, Highgate School, King’s College School Wimbledon and The Latymer School.
Each school sets its own assessment, and requirements can change. Preparation therefore develops transferable English skills alongside careful attention to the pupil’s intended entry route.
Fees
Private tuition starts at £170 per hour. The rate includes lesson preparation and marking or feedback on work agreed as part of tuition, so the session builds on what your child has done between lessons. The scope and schedule are discussed before tuition begins.
