Make each practice paper count
A practice paper is most useful when it identifies what a pupil can already do and what they should work on next. Use this sequence for both 11+ and 13+ English preparation.
Before the paper
Check the instructions, available time and sections. Prepare a quiet space and decide whether the first attempt will be untimed or timed. Do not read the accompanying teaching slides before the first independent attempt if you want a realistic picture of current skills.
During the paper
Read the passage carefully and underline the key instruction in each question. For comprehension, answer the precise question and support inferences with relevant textual detail. For writing, make a brief plan and allow time to check the finished piece.
After the paper
Review answers against any supplied guidance. Separate errors into reading accuracy, inference, quotation selection, analysis, planning, expression and technical accuracy. Choose one or two priorities for the next session.
Use the accompanying PowerPoint lesson
Where a pack includes a lesson, work through it after the first attempt. Pause for discussion and retry the relevant question or paragraph independently. Compare the revised response with the original to identify the improvement.
Keep a simple progress record
Note the date, paper, strengths and next target. Return to the same skill in a fresh passage before attempting another full paper. Product contents vary: check the listing to see whether a lesson or answer guide is included.
