The 2017–2024 papers use the modern single-extract format
Sevenoaks School currently publishes eight Year 7 English past papers on its official admissions website, covering 2017 to 2024. These are the papers to prioritise for current-format familiarisation because they use the more recent single-extract comprehension format.
Older Sevenoaks papers found on third-party websites are different: earlier papers use the older two-extract comprehension format. They can still provide useful English practice, but they are less representative when pupils are rehearsing the structure and timing of the more recent Sevenoaks paper.
Why exact-format practice matters
For a realistic mock, the structure and mark allocation matter as much as the difficulty of the passage. The English Entrance Press Sevenoaks practice papers are built around the latest published model: one reading extract, a 15-mark reading section and a 15-mark creative-writing section. Replicating the published mark split makes it much easier to practise pacing accurately and run a genuinely useful timed mock.
Our papers use fresh, unseen extracts and questions, so pupils can practise the current structure without using up the limited official papers too early.

Finished the Sevenoaks past papers?
Continue with fresh, unseen passages and writing tasks in the same modern structure. The goal is to test whether a pupil can transfer close reading, precise inference, evidence selection, language analysis and controlled creative writing to material they have never encountered before.

Build from shorter to extended unseen reading
Pupils still developing confidence can begin with our shorter-passage Sevenoaks practice papers. When they are ready to select and connect more detail, move to the extended-passage papers. Both retain the same 15-mark reading and 15-mark writing structure for accurate timed practice.
How many practice papers should a child complete?
More papers are useful only when each one informs the next. After an unseen paper, identify one reading target and one writing target, practise those weaknesses separately, and then use another fresh paper to see whether the improvement transfers under timed conditions.
